Foz do Iguazú: the charm of the falls

Foz do Iguazú, pff…I don’t know how to start, this city really amazed me. I had high expectations and it did not disappoint me. With long in advance I planned to visit Iguaçu Falls and would be in Foz do Iguazú, where this tour start. Then it would end up in Puerto Iguazú on the Argentine side.

I was in Rio de Janeiro living Carnival. The days passed and my next goal was to visit the Iguazu falls.

Useful information about Foz do Iguazú

How to get there

To get here I realized that there are departing buses and flights too often from Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. I travelled by bus, on a trip that I recommend. To be a long run of 22 hours it was very pleasant. The bus from Rio de Janeiro was full of European and Asian tourists. I was alone but I met a German girl on the bus that was also single, so she was my company on this journey. We arrived at the bus station and outside the Terminal we found buses that take you to another bus station where buses depart to Puerto Iguazú, to the waterfalls or to the center of the city.

The city

After finding a place to sleep, we went to visit the city since we arrived at about two o’clock in the afternoon and to visit the falls it is advisable to do it in the morning to enjoy all day. An easier to understand Portuguese is spoken here despite being a Brazilian city. The city is wonderful, with a center filled with many places to eat and also many shops to buy an endless gifts related to falls.

Souvenirs

To buy gifts you should make a time to haggle and compare prices as between a place and another there are very marked differences. It is noteworthy that you can pay with reales, dollars and Argentine pesos.

Food

In the downtown you can eat a menu of French fries with rice, beef and a glass of drink by 25 to 30 reales.

How to get to the falls

There are several options to get to the falls. The most expensive option is to buy a tour, which takes you to the falls in minibuses which I really do not find it sense. It is also a most economical alternative and one of the most used which is taking a bus to Foz do Iguazú Park from the Rodoviaria.

This Park has spectacular views of the waterfalls, it is really beautiful, and without a doubt it should be done.

The falls on the Argentine side

From the Rodoviaria de Foz do Iguazú, the next day we took a bus to the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú to visit the falls on the Argentine side. There is also the option of taking a taxi, but the price triples automatically. To visit the falls on the Argentine side, you can go early in the morning and already at about five in the afternoon, came back to Foz do Iguazú.

Tip: Bring a backpack with water or drinks, cookies, etc., since the prices within the Park are very high.

Did you like it? Book here and enjoy the city! :)
