Foz do Iguaçu, known as the land of the waterfalls, is a unique place, full of energy, good people and nights of fun. It is one of the places with the most hospitable people I have ever met in my life. Without a doubt it is a city that brings me many memories; I had the chance to visit it twice.

Tourist attractions near Foz do Iguaçu

For a Brazilian there is no way  to visit Foz do Iguaçu without making a quick trip to Paraguay and get lost among the thousands of shops in the streets, the galleries of all sizes, malls and fairs, with prices far below normal. I recommend dedicating a whole day for this ride.

Crossing the friendship bridge into Ciudad del Este is a compulsory walk. Only 10 minutes from the Centre of Foz do Iguaçu, you can achieve a sea of products that emptied your pockets and make your eyes shine. There you can pay in reales, in dollars or in the local currency.

The Itaipu hydroelectric plant with its monuments, the tri-border area and the incredible “Parque das Aves” are the tourist attractions of the city (of course, without mention the main reason for the trip, the waterfalls).

The Centre of Foz do Iguaçu

In addition the center of the city is full of options, Foz do Iguaçu offers many affordable restaurants, also there are shopping malls, markets and souvenir shops where the prices are a little higher.

Taking a taxi is easy and reliable, but the Centre can be explored on foot. I recommend visiting the bar Old Zeppelin to enjoy the night, but also you can cross the border to Argentina,it is a good choice.

Iguazú Waterfalls

The main attraction of the place is to visit the Iguazú National Park, the largest remnant of the Atlantic forest of southern Brazil, where are located the Iguazu falls. These were declared a world heritage by UNESCO in 1986. The impressive waterfalls are formed by the Iguazu river waterfalls, meaning “big water” in the tupi-guarani etymology.

The place is incomparable, it requires a full day of dedication. You will enjoy the constant sound of nature that will relax you body. Many times you can stop to admire the view and forget about the rest of the world. Coatis and butterflies will accompany along the route of the Park and you will notice that it was worth to visit the place at every step.
